Clearing up my acne was a challenge this week. I was met with a cold, a storm, and no power. While the results weren’t exactly what I hoped for, progress was made, and that’s always a win.
Living in Puerto Rico, the power grid is notoriously unreliable. I’d compare it to an old patchwork quilt—frayed, unreliable, and barely holding together. So after a tropical storm grazed the island, the power plant supplying my electricity flooded, leaving us without power for three days.
This meant a lot of sweating, which didn’t help my acne-prone skin.
Sweating clogs pores and leads to more inflammation, making it difficult to manage breakouts.
But despite the setbacks, I focused on my skincare routine and adjusted it to keep my acne under control.
Let me share the products and methods I used to clear up my skin this week.
How I Tamed My Acne
Recently, I decided to take a chance and purchase two new inexpensive serums from my local pharmacy, each priced at just $5.99. I didn’t expect much, but they had ingredients I love, so I figured it was worth a shot.
Good news— they didn’t disappoint!
These were the only two products I used this week.
Each evening after my shower, I applied a 2% Hyaluronic Acid serum followed by a 10% Niacinamide + Zinc serum. On the last day, once the breakouts had calmed down, I gently exfoliated the area before applying the serums. I waited until the inflammation subsided before exfoliating to avoid further irritation.
That’s it! See the results for yourself.
Embrace Progress, Not Perfection
Even when life throws challenges your way, you can still take control of your skin.
With patience and the right products, progress is always possible. Don’t be discouraged by setbacks—use them as opportunities to refine your routine.
Keep experimenting, keep learning, and your skin will thank you.
See you next week.
